Conwy’s Tourism Ambassador Programme

Conwy County Borough Council has successfully applied for £34,000 of Shared Prosperity Funding to improve the visitor experience in Conwy County by further developing Conwy’s Tourism Ambassador Programme.

Plans include networking events for existing Conwy Tourism Ambassadors to come together and share knowledge and to learn about what’s new in Conwy County, whilst visiting lots of tourism focussed businesses across our towns and villages.

Conwy Tourism Ambassador Melissa said: “I’m looking forward to the Tan y Mynydd Talk and Tour on 19 August. I don’t know much about fly fishing, but can’t wait to learn all about its history and origins and hopefully getting stuck in and having a go myself! That’s the beauty of the Ambassador Programme; it opens your mind to new experiences”.

A full list of the Conwy Tourism Ambassador Networking Schedule can be found here. Please note, in order to attend these sessions, you must be a Bronze Level Conwy Tourism Ambassador or above. However, some events listed are exclusively for Gold Level Conwy Tourism Ambassadors.

There is also an ambition to recruit at least five new businesses to join the Conwy Tourism Ambassador Programme as a verified Business Ambassador to further educate employees on the visitor offer so they can provide the best possible visitor experience and top-notch customer service.

Tansy Rogerson, Chair of Destination Conwy Partnership said: “One of the projects I’m most excited about is the Llandudno Town White Badge Tourist Guiding Course giving up to twelve people the training, support and resources to set up as an Official Tourist Guide in the Town”.

As well as updating the ambassador web platform to keep up with people’s needs, there are also plans to include a brand-new module specifically on accessibility to ensure ambassadors are up to date on what we have here in Conwy County to welcome everyone.

Cllr Nigel Smith, Cabinet Member for a Sustainable Economy said: “I’m delighted we have been able to draw down funding to continue the work of the very successful Conwy Tourism Ambassador Programme. Improving the visitor experience is one of our focussed goals under the Destination Conwy Plan”
