Waste and Recycling 
Some of our waste and recycling crew members are self-isolating at the moment, to keep the public and their colleagues safe. This is affecting our usual waste and recycling collection service.  Due to staff shortages, we are not able to guarantee to collect your recycling or general waste on the usual day. If your containers aren’t emptied, please leave them out – we will get to you.

Test Trace Protect 
The NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service will contact you if you’ve tested positive for coronavirus or it’s been confirmed that you have had close contact with someone who has coronavirus.  The NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service is there to support you through the process, particularly if you’re vulnerable or if you have concerns about self-isolation.

Coronavirus Data
Public Health Wales publishes an interactive daily dashboard of data about coronavirus cases across Wales, broken down by health board and local authority area.

NHS COVID-19 app 
People across Wales and England are being urged to download the NHS COVID-19 app to help stop the spread of coronavirus and protect themselves and their loved ones as case numbers rise. The app features are:

  • Alert: lets you know the level of coronavirus risk in your postcode district
  • Trace: get alerted if you’ve been near other app users who have tested
  • Check-in: get alerted if you have recently visited a venue where you may have come into contact with coronavirus
  • Symptoms: check if you have coronavirus symptoms and see if you need to order a free test
  • Test: helps you book a test and get your result quickly
  • Isolate: keep track of your self-isolation countdown and access relevant advice

The app will support the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service and will work alongside the existing manual contact tracing system.

COVID-19 Economic Resilience Fund Business Support 
The Fund is administered in two parts: 
• support for businesses with a turnover of less than £85,000 is administered by Local Authorities. Eligible Businesses in Conwy will be able to apply from Monday, 26 July 2021 at Economic Resilience Fund (conwy.gov.uk)

Trading Standards

Food Safety

Sunday Trading
To support the supermarkets efforts to help key workers and the vulnerable shop for essential food safely, the Council has taken steps to relax enforcement on Sunday trading rules.

Our public protection team have noticed an increase in complaints about garden bonfires.  Smoke can ruin neighbours’ enjoyment of their gardens, prevent them from opening their windows and hanging washing out and obscure visibility in the neighbourhood and on the road. Please consider others before lighting a bonfire.


Registration Service
Marriage and Civil Partnership: We are now able to offer Notices of Marriage/Civil Partnership appointments, and we are able to conduct Civil Partnership and Marriages in the Register Office.
Registration of Births: we can register babies.
Copy certificates: Copy certificates can only be ordered over the telephone by calling (01492) 576525.
Registering a death: Death registration appointments will now only be completed over the phone. Please call (01492) 576525 to make an appointment.


Waste and Recycling

If your containers aren’t emptied, please leave them out – we will get to you. 
To keep our refuse and recycling collections going, we need your help in protecting our staff. 
If your household is self-isolating because someone has viral symptoms, please do not put your recycling out for collection for 14 days. After 14 days, if no one has symptoms, you can put out your recycling and we will take any extra that doesn’t fit in your trolibocs.
Don’t forget to wash your hands before you put out your bin and recycling containers, and again as soon as you bring them back in.

Homeless Prevention Service 
The Conwy Housing Solutions team are continuing to deliver services to the public.  We’re following the latest government advice, to ensure everyone has access to accommodation and able to stay safe during this time.  This also means we are working slightly differently, for example making contact by phone rather than face-to-face.  We continue to work with all of our partners to provide accommodation and support to ensure that everyone has access to a safe place to stay. 
We are also doing all our usual homeless prevention work for anyone threatened with homelessness due to rent and mortgage arrears, received notice, or been asked to leave their home.  We are encouraging anyone experiencing problems with their housing to contact us for advice and assistance.

  • Any person homeless or threatened with homelessness can contact us Monday to Thursday 8:45am-5:15pm, and Friday 8:45am-4:45pm on 0300 124 0050 or email housingsolutions@conwy.gov.uk

Social Care
Social Care teams are continuing to deliver services to the public.  We’re following the latest government advice, this means sometimes we might be working slightly differently, for example making contact by phone rather than face-to-face, if it is appropriate. 

  • The Single Point of Access for health and social care is open and staff are available to assist you. Telephone 0300 456 1111 (Monday to Thursday 9am-4.45pm and Fridays 9am-4.15pm) or email: wellbeing@conwy.gov.uk
  • The Community Wellbeing team are available to help you navigate www.dewis.wales to find out about support and groups in your community.
  • The Emergency Duty Team (EDT) provide information and support to individuals who need to contact Social Services outside normal working hours. The Team is only able to deal with emergency situations that cannot wait until the next day. Telephone 0300 123 3079 (Monday to Friday 5pm-9am and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 9am-9am).

Disability Services - Day and Work Opportunities
To minimise risk and ensure that we are complying with Welsh Government guidance, we are continuing to operate a limited day and work opportunities service for people with learning disabilities and a limited service in relation to our children with disabilities clubs.  
Referrals to Disability Services have increased, resulting in a waiting list for Social Work and Occupational Therapy Assessment. If you are not attending services at the moment and you want to discuss restarting or want to pursue an alternative provision, please get in touch at disabilityadmin@conwy.gov.uk  or 01492 575374. 
We are reviewing the situation as government guidance changes and hope to further ease restrictions as things continue to improve.

Family Support Teams
The five local Family Support Teams (which includes Flying Start) are available to provide information, advice, and support for families during this time. Community Support Service Update
The Community Support Service was formed to react to the needs of our residents during the lockdown. Other organisations have established robust ways of supporting people during the pandemic and they will continue to deliver essential services in the coming months. Galw Gofal is operating as usual, providing 24/7 emergency telecare and out of hours call monitoring service to help protect older or vulnerable people in their own homes. Galw Gofal is committed to helping our customers remain safe and well at this time.

You can use it for yourself or to help someone else.

Self-Isolation Payments
Eligible individuals are entitled to a Self-Isolation Support Payment or discretionary support payment of £500. This is to support people on low incomes who are unable to work from home if they are told to self-isolate by the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service (TTP) and will lose income as a result. The £500 payment scheme has been extended to help parents and carers who have to take time off work to look after their children when they have to self-isolate because of a coronavirus outbreak in their school or childcare setting.  Apply at Self Isolation Support Payment (conwy.gov.uk)

The Early Years and Childcare Team and Conwy Family Information Service provide information to families on childcare including the Childcare Offer, Early Years Education, Assisted places and Emergency funding. The Childcare Offer provides 30 hours of combined Early Education and care to the working parents of 3 and 4 year olds.

Free School Meals 
Welsh Government have made funding available for a free school meal allowance of £19.50 per week per entitled learner to make the free school meal provision available during school holidays throughout the 2021 to 2022 financial year.

Car Parks
Our car parks are open with pay and display. You can pay by cash or card at the machine (including contactless). Pay machines will be cleaned regularly. You can use your phone to pay for parking at all our car parks and on-street parking. No cash or contact needed. Look around before you get out of your vehicle, so you can keep 2m away from other people. 

Please follow these guidelines for your safety and to protect other users:

  • Keep your distance from other tenants to help limit the spread of the virus. Follow current government rules about social distancing. You should be a minimum of 2 metres/6 feet apart.
  • Do not share tools or any other equipment with any other allotment tenants.
  • Observe strict hygiene after touching site gates, locks or other communal items. Disinfect your hands after each use.
  • Allotments are for allotment tenants only. No groups are allowed on site and only people who live in your household can enter the site while you are there.
  • Please stay on your plot at all times and do not enter another plot under any circumstances.

If you go out walking, please follow the current social distancing rules and keep your dog on a lead around sheep and lambs.

These are open. You will need to keep socially distanced and clean hands regularly. Please follow the signs to make this a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

Crematorium and Cemeteries 
The chapel at Colwyn Bay Crematorium is only open to invited guests only, with a maximum of 30 people. Mourners are advised to follow national guidelines on hygiene and social distancing. We are offering free webcasting of memorial services. 
Up to 50 people are permitted to attend burials. 
We are accepting appointments to witness scattering ashes at Bron Y Nant crematorium, and interment of ashes into memorials at all of our cemeteries. 
Social distancing guidelines apply to all of the above.

Venue Cymru, Theatr Colwyn & Oriel Colwyn 
Theatr Colwyn and Oriel Colwyn will re-open on Friday 28 May. Please check the website and social media for screening and exhibition details. 
Venue Cymru is currently supporting Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board as a Covid-19 vaccination centre. There are no live theatre shows or conferences taking place at the venue at this time. The Box Office team will be in touch with patrons if performances have to be rescheduled or cancelled.

To ensure the safety of the public and staff, all Conwy County Borough Council buildings that are open to staff and/or the public have been risk assessed using the COVID-19 guidance provided by Welsh Government, in addition to the usual building risk assessments.
