The Summer Reading Challenge combines free access to books with fun, creative activities during the summer holidays. Throughout the Challenge, library staff support the children, helping them to discover new authors and illustrators and to explore a wide range of different types of books and ways of reading.

How the Challenge works

  • Children sign up through their local library and receive a Wild World Heroes collector poster
  • Children set a reading goal and borrow and read library books of their own choice during the summer, collecting special stickers to complete their poster and extra incentives along the way
  • Library staff are on hand to advise and run family-friendly activities
  • Children who complete the Summer Reading Challenge are presented with a certificate and a medal

The official Challenge website, wildworldheroes.org.uk, hosts digital rewards, author videos, games and more for children to enjoy all summer

Conwy Libraries are now open for browsing sessions, (adhering to Covid guidelines) so children and their families can visit and from Saturday July 10 to register for the Summer Reading Challenge.

If families prefer we can arrange a Call and Collect service and library staff will select a range of suitable books to be collected from the library at an agreed time which can include their Summer Reading Challenge pack.

To tie in with the theme of this year’s challenge we are very excited to be working in partnership with the Welsh Mountain Zoo to deliver a series of story time sessions on Mondays throughout the summer at the zoo. These sessions will be available to book and a zoo ticket must be purchased to attend the sessions.  https://www.welshmountainzoo.org/

As part of Conwy’s ‘Summer of Fun’ activities funded by Welsh Government we are able to offer 10 lucky winners the opportunity of free family Zoo tickets.

All children registering for the Summer Reading Challenge can be entered into this weekly free prize draw.
