Ffit Conwy unveils new state of the art gym in Penrhyn Bay, promoting healthy lifestyles for all ages

On Monday, 9th June 2025, Conwy County Borough Council’s Leisure Service formally opened the newly developed Ffit Conwy gym at Creuddyn Leisure Centre.

Over the past four months, the old Creuddyn 1980s school gymnasium has been transformed into a spacious fully equipped gym. It features a cardio area with the latest Technogym machines, a Watson resistance area, including the popular Lifting platforms, and a synthetic track with an area for Hyrox training.

The Ffit Conwy Junior Sports and Activities Engagement project has received £126,000 from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund - to support an element of this facility, the wider project encourages and supports young people to increase activity levels.

Ffit Conwy Section Head, Mally Tidswell said: “Accessing the grant funding and working together with Ysgol Y Creuddyn has enabled us to breathe a new lease of life into the school gymnasium. The facilities support our service improvement plan which concentrates on inspiring children and adults to move more.

“We’re really pleased with how the gym has developed; extending our offer for fitness enthusiasts is a vital addition for the community, offering essential services and promoting a healthy lifestyle for all.

“There will be more announcements on Ffit Conwy service improvements throughout this year so keep an eye on our social media accounts for the latest news.”

Ysgol y Creuddyn will have access to the gym within school hours and the Ffit Conwy team will provide instructor-led strength and conditioning sessions for the pupils.

Head teacher, Gwenno Mair Davies said: "We're extremely excited about the new, state-of-the-art gym here at Ysgol y Creuddyn.

“Our dedicated staff within the Health and Wellbeing Area of Learning, especially within the Physical Education department, work tirelessly in their commitment to prioritise physical health and mental wellbeing and in encouraging our students to lead active and healthy lives.

“This fantastic facility will strengthen and enhance the great work they do and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the school and the wider community."

Cllr Dilwyn Roberts, Cabinet Member for Culture, Governance and IT, said: “We’re proud to provide state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in a modern environment. It reinforces the Ffit Conwy brand and Conwy County Borough Council’s commitment to residents’ health and wellbeing.”

The gym is open Monday to Friday: 6am – 8am and 4:30pm – 9.30pm, Saturdays and Sundays: 8am – 12noon. For Ffit Conwy members the gym is included in the membership and for non-members £8 (concessions £5) per hour.

Hourly sessions are bookable via the Ffit Conwy App, online at ffitconwy.co.uk or by calling 0300 456 95 25.
