Public Space Protection Order in Conwy town

Safer Conwy
Measures introduced to prevent crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour in Conwy town have been extended for a further three years.
Working in partnership with North Wales Police, Conwy County Borough Council has extended the Public Space Protection Order in Conwy town, including the High Street, Quay, train station and Bodlondeb Park.
The Order means that anyone who refuses to stop drinking alcohol, or who refuses to surrender alcohol when required to by a Police Officer or PCSO, will be liable for a Fixed Penalty Notice or a fine through the courts.
The existing Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was introduced in Conwy town in May 2022, under the Anti-social Behaviour Crime & Policing Act 2014, to help tackle these issues for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors to the town.
Local residents, business owners and councillors were invited to submit their views about extending the PSPO, no objections were received.
Cllr Geoff Stewart, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, Environment & Regulatory Services said, “We hope by extending this Order it will continue to provide an effective deterrent, and also enable offenders to be dealt with swiftly by Police Officers.”
Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan, said, “We believe that in this case a Public Space Protection Order makes our community safer and helps us tackle problems that cause fear, anxiety and nuisance to local residents. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated; North Wales Police will work with our partners to ensure robust enforcement of the law to deliver a safer neighbourhood for everyone.”
